We are Pounamu Chews a small young enterprise business selling silicone based pounamu heart-shaped teethers for babies under 36months.
Pounamu are a taonga [treasure] for Māori often worn as a carved pendant, gifted on special occasions. They hold stories, history and memories of loved ones and significant moments for the wearer. As a pounamu is sacred and should be well cared for and preserved we have created a baby-safe alternative. Our product is also packaged in a lovely kete bag and includes a card with Māori phrases you are able to pull out and practice at anytime, for example: when you are changing your babies nappies.
These chews are not only just a baby safe alternative but it encourages the connection between Māori babies and their heritage.
